After almost 35 years in the petrochemical industry, I'm still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I enjoy learning new things.  I really enjoy designing and building things in my home shop.  My next big thing is horology - I want to make brass skeleton clocks.

I've enjoyed a diverse career.  I basically grew up in a family owned and operated machine shop.  In my early 20's I supported my new family as an agriculture mechanic, automotive mechanic, generator mechanic, and HVAC repair tech.  I attended process instrumentation school and landed a job at an OxyChem site in 1989.  I changed roles to Process Operator, then Operations Supervisor.

In 1996 I jumped at an opportunity to work for the DCS group at my site.  It was during this segment of my career where I was first introduced to "cyber security".

The plant changed owners a few times but in 2008 during an economic downturn, hurricane Ike flooded my plant with sea water and that was the end of that.  I took the first job I could get which was an Accident Investigator at a large refinery.  Process Safety Management and human factors became my focus for the next few years.

In 2013 I found my way to CPChem at Cedar Bayou as a Control System Analyst.  My role included alarm management & process automation application support including database administration - basically support for everything process control that wasn't DCS or PLC.  My teams' responsibilities grew to include around 90 OT Windows Servers and 130 OT Windows Workstations.

In late 2023 I joined CPChem's Business Transformation unit as an ICS Security Architect, and I had no idea how much I didn't know about cyber security.
